Premio Roma Danza 2023

The Roma Danza Prize, an international competition focusing on dance interpretation and dance videos, concluded its 21st edition on July 12th with a Gala performance and prize giving evening.

Since 2019, the Cuomo Foundation has been the official sponsor of this event, providing support in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC), the municipality of Rome, and the Foundation of the National Dance Academy (FAND). From July 8th to July 12th, the "Teatro Grande" of the National Dance Academy in Rome (AND) brought together aspiring dancers from different parts of the world to demonstrate their talents before an eminent international jury.

Maria Enrica Palmieri, the Director of the Academy, enlisted a panel of distinguished judges to assess the abilities of the young dancers in three categories of dance videos: Dance Movie, Published Dance Production, and SmartPhone Dance, in addition to the classical and contemporary interpretation sections. For the Interpretation section, Karima Mansour, a renowned contemporary dancer and choreographer from Egypt, served as the jury president, while Giorgi Kharebava, the director of the film department at the University of Tbilisi, presided over the Dance Videos section. The jury presidents were joined by Guillaume Siard, a dancer, teacher, and artistic assistant to Angelin Preljocaj, David Abilio, the founder of the National Company of Song and Dance of Mozambique, Leonetta Bentivoglio, a dance journalist and critic, Gerarda Ventura, the artistic director of Anghiari Dance Hub, Elisa Guzzo Vaccarino, a dance critic and historian, and Ariella Vidach, a dancer and choreographer.

For the third consecutive year, the Roma Capitale Special Prize engaged multiple municipalities in the competition. This prize, created by the director of AND, aimed to highlight the distinctive features of various territories and neighbourhoods through dance. This year, the GD-Compagnie from municipality X emerged as the winner of this prize with their dance video "MI ALMA."

Furthermore, the Cuomo Foundation sought to acknowledge another dance video that caught their attention with the Special Cuomo Foundation Prize. This recognition was given to the video "UNISONO," from municipality XI, for its originality, staging, and dramaturgy.
