2026 Oct 30
On 15 October 2026, the Cuomo Foundation welcomed Paul Andrés Jiménez, a PhD student from Ecuador and a member of the 2025–2027 IPCC Scholarship Programme cohort, to its headquarters in Monaco.

Paul specialises in soil and landscape conservation, restoration and monitoring. His doctoral research examines how agricultural technologies can improve soil management and help sustain healthy, productive landscapes. His work addresses an important challenge: how to maintain agricultural productivity while conserving the natural resources on which it depends.
Conservation, restoration and monitoring are closely connected aspects of this endeavour. Protecting soils requires an understanding of their condition, the pressures they face and how they respond to different management practices. By exploring the contribution of agricultural technologies, Paul’s research seeks to inform approaches that support both productive land use and the long-term health of landscapes.
As a recipient of an IPCC scholarship, Paul Andrés receives financial assistance to complete his doctoral thesis. His visit to Monaco provided an opportunity to strengthen the connection between the Cuomo Foundation and a researcher whose work it supports.
The Foundation has supported the IPCC Scholarship Programme since 2013, funding 31 projects from 19 developing countries, allowing researchers to pursue advanced studies on climate change and its effects. This longstanding commitment reflects the Foundation’s belief in education and scientific research as essential foundations for addressing environmental challenges.
