This led to extensive flooding across the city, evoking memories of the deadly monsoon floods of 2015.
The floods in Chennai and the southern districts of Tamil Nadu have not only ravaged public infrastructure but have also disrupted countless lives. Many homes were submerged in water, and the impact of the flood was beyond imagination.
In response, the Diocese of Chingleput appealed to the Cuomo Foundation for financial assistance to aid the victims of the Michaung Cyclone. The Cuomo Foundation generously provided 11,000 Euros to the Diocese of Chingleput as flood relief funds.
Approximately 1,000 victims were identified from over 20 villages, and the distribution of essential items such as groceries, blankets, and clothing for men and women took place in 20 locations. The distribution was well-organized by the Cuomo Foundation in India, with Bishop Neethinan (Diocese of Chingleput), Fr. Anand (Financial Administrator of the diocese), and representatives from the Foundation, Mr. Charles and Mr. Roshan, actively participating in the relief efforts.
