A historic milestone has been reached at Pikine Hospital, AME-International proudly announces: for the first time in Senegal, laparoscopic sentinel lymph node detection has been performed in gynaecological surgery.

This achievement follows the establishment of a laparoscopic gynaecological surgery unit at the hospital, located on the outskirts of Dakar. The procedure uses advanced technology already successfully employed at the Princess Grace Hospital Centre (CHPG) in Monaco.

The surgical unit’s equipment was funded by the Cuomo Foundation and AME-International, an association whose mission is “to train African doctors in various specialities”. Training for Pikine’s medical team was provided by CHPG staff.

“It is a source of great pride to see this cooperation bear fruit for the benefit of Senegalese patients,” said Dr Jacques Raiga, Vice-President of AME-International. “Our heartfelt thanks to the Cuomo Foundation, which has always supported this wonderful project.”
